We were delighted to welcome former Owls defender Tommy Spurr, his wife Chloe and son Rio to Hillsborough on Saturday!
Young Rio is currently undergoing treatment for a rare form of kidney cancer, Wilms tumour, after being diagnosed with the disease in April.
Around 80 children are diagnosed with this disease in the UK each year.
Rio has been receiving chemotherapy at Manchester Children’s Hospital since April and underwent a four-hour surgery to remove the main tumour and his right kidney.
Following his initial treatment, which is due to last around nine months, there is a high risk of relapse.
Tommy, Chloe, friends and family are now fundraising for the future to allow exploration of treatments overseas, should it be necessary.
With plans underway for many fundraisers down the line, the first is almost upon us!
The next #allforRio challenge is a mega cycle! It will involve a total of 120 miles, stopping off at Tommy’s former clubs on Saturday 13 August; Hillsborough, Eco-Power Stadium, Ewood Park and finishing at Deepdale.
All donations to the #allforRio fund are massively appreciated and if you can spare anything today, the link is here to do so - ALL FOR RIO.
