Charity match for Rio and Jude!

11 August 2022

The Wednesday ‘Til I Die podcast will host a charity match this weekend, with the funds aiding youngsters Rio Spurr and Jude-Mellon Jameson.

The boys, sons of former Owls players Tommy Spurr and Arron Jameson, are both receiving treatment for cancer.

Rio was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer, Wilms tumour, in April this year and Jude has been receiving care for neuroblastoma, another rare form of the disease, for over a year.

Both youngsters’ illnesses have a high chance of returning even if their initial treatment in the UK is successful, so both families are aiming for advanced options overseas to lessen the risk of relapse.

The charity match, which takes place on Sunday 14 August at St George’s Park in Thorncliffe, will raise funds for the families to facilitate the boys’ much-needed treatment.

Arron will be joined on the pitch by fellow former Owl Giles Coke, with kick-off at 2:00pm.

A bucket collection is taking place at the game, giving supporters the chance to donate to the worthy causes.

Tommy will be taking on his own fundraising challenge the same day, cycling to four of his former clubs, Blackburn, Preston, Doncaster and Wednesday.
