Gaffer pleased with Mighten capture

31 August 2022

Signed on Monday, played on Tuesday. Alex Mighten was thrown straight into the mix by manager Darren Moore in the midweek Papa John's Trophy clash.

A much-changed Owls side were beaten at Bradford in midweek but the gaffer was pleased with the minutes that new recruit Mighten clocked up.

Having joined us on loan from Nottingham Forest for the season, the 20-year-old trained with his new team mates on Monday and played 80 minutes at the University of Bradford Stadium yesterday evening.

On securing his services for the campaign, Moore said: “I am really pleased to get him in, it was a tough one for us to get and we had to fight off Championship and other League One interest.

“It was really important to get him in.

“We wanted him and Mallik in for the balance they can give us.

“Alex can play in the 10, up front or out wide if we do flip a system change. There are two or three different positions he can play and he gives us a different dimension.”

Explaining the thought process of utilising Mighten against the Bantams, the boss added:

“I thought I would give him some minutes and get him used to his team mates.

“I gave him a free role in the number 10 position and you could see he has got the ability to go past people in the final third.

“When he does go past people, it creates an overload for us and that is a real positive.”
