Jay Glover makes his professional debut for the Owls this evening against Rochdale in the second round of the Carabao Cup, so here’s the lowdown on the 19-year-old!
Glover joined Wednesday aged 14 on 8 May 2017 after playing with local sides Sheffield Boys and Greenhill.
The Sheffielder has predominantly played in midfield for the Owls’ younger sides, taking on a box-to-box role in the engine room.
After completing his two-year scholarship, Glover signed his maiden professional deal in June 2021.
A regular for Wednesday’s Under-21 side, the youngster was called up to first team training by Darren Moore at the start of pre-season and played in our friendly against Alfreton earlier this summer.
Owls academy manager Steven Haslam said: “Jay is a Sheffield lad who’s been with the club a number of years and completed his two-year scholarship last year.
“He gained some experience training with the first team in pre-season this summer and he’s a developing player.
“It’s fantastic to see another player make his debut because that’s what the academy is all about, getting players into the first team.
“It’s a big opportunity for Jay and a proud moment for his family and everyone involved with the academy.
“This gives the other young players a real, clear belief that they could be in the same position.“
