We found a way

13 August 2022

With the sun blazing down on Hillsborough, Wednesday turned up the heat 10 minutes from time to beat Charlton 1-0.

Darren Moore’s triple substitution changed the course of the game as Tyreeq Bakinson came off the bench to seal victory.

And Moore highlighted the impact of the trio and influence on the team.

He said: “We always knew the substitutes were going to play their part because of the conditions. The heat was intense and credit to both teams for playing at that pace and tempo in that weather. The drinks breaks were vital.

“It was important to refresh things and it was the right time of the game. They will get the plaudits but I say well done to everyone today because that was not easy.

“We kept plugging away, we had to be patient, but we found a way. That’s what you have to do in games sometimes and today was one of those days.

“We had the best home record in all four divisions last season and we worked so hard to achieve that. The aim is to do the same again but we’re not going to win every game here in S6 by big margins, we have to work for everything we achieve.

“Ben Garner is doing a really good job at Charlton, you can see what he’s trying to do with the patterns and the way they play.

“Charlton are a tough nut to crack, make no mistake about that, but we found a way to win the game.”
