THE MATCH

Wednesday enter into 2023 on the cusp of the top two following Thursday night’s victory over Port Vale.

Darren Moore’s men are out of the automatic equation by the tightest of margins and could make the leap on Monday.

Cambridge present the next challenge and head to Hillsborough just two points clear of the relegation zone.

The U’s posted a welcome Boxing Day triumph over Shrewsbury to halt a winless run of eight games but lost 1-0 at Derby on Friday evening.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Darren Moore is waiting on the fitness of Barry Bannan, who limped out of the Port Vale clash midway through the first half.

The Owls boss said post-match he will assess the situation of the skipper over the ensuing days.

Lee Gregory, forced out of the action on Boxing Day at Fleetwood, will also be assessed.

Cambridge: An injury crisis forced Mark Bonner into a raft of changes at Pride Park and the Cambridge boss is expected to shuffle his pack again on Monday.

Lloyd Jones, Harrison Dunk, Dimi Mitov, Adam May and Liam O’Neil are all in the recovery room, while Bonner has also had to contend with illness in the Cambridge camp.

Ben Worman picked up a knock at Pride Park on Friday and is a doubt, while defender Liam Bennett has been recalled from his loan spell at League Two Walsall.
