Moore marks Owls century

27 December 2022

Darren Moore took charge of his 100th Owls game on Boxing Day as Wednesday ran out 2-1 winners against Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium.

The former Doncaster boss made the switch to Hillsborough in March 2021 and has amassed a high number of points since taking the S6 hotseat.

Moore has won nearly half of all his games in charge of the club, with his record showing 48 victories, 26 draws and 26 defeats.

His biggest victory came against Cambridge at Hillsborough last season, with Wednesday beating the U’s 6-0.

The Owls have scored 165 goals in all competitions since Moore’s first game, with over 100 of those coming in 2022.

This year has also seen us rack up an incredible points tally of 94 so far, the highest of any club in England’s top four divisions.

Speaking on his achievement, the former Premier League defender said: “I’m really pleased to hit that landmark as a manager in an industry that is very difficult and competitive.

“Obviously, I want to continue and keep going to improve as a boss going forward, but to reach 100 games is a lovely achievement.”

When asked about his favourite moments as Owls manager, Moore highlighted last season’s trip to Doncaster Rovers where we overturned the hosts’ 1-0 lead to win 3-1.

That result was the first time Wednesday had come from behind to win since February 2016, which holds poignancy for the former West Brom boss.

Moore added: “We played away at Doncaster, it was a South Yorkshire derby but to come back and win and what it meant for the players at that time was a memorable moment for me.

“Another highlight is the transition in terms of the mentality in the club, there’s new vigour and new hope.

“The good moments continue to evolve for me. When we look back at the work we’ve done, there’s been significant change but we know there’s a lot more hunger and desire to continue doing more.

“It’s a long road ahead but we’re up for the challenge.”
