Darren Moore: Post-Charlton talking points

26 February 2022

The Owls posted a 2-0 win over Charlton at Hillsborough on Saturday and here is a selection of talking points from Darren Moore’s post-match press conference.

ON THE GAME
We were dominant from start to finish and I was really impressed with the concentration levels of the players. When you score so early it’s easy to think the game will be easy but there is no such thing as an easy game. You have to continue your work rate and concentration and we did that today. We thoroughly deserved the three points and we take that and move on to the next game on Tuesday night. After leading 2-0 at half time that was the minimum for the result, I wanted a third, but I will take 2-0 and a clean sheet.

ON THE COLLECTIVE
This is all about the squad and players giving their all for this football club. We’ve had players playing out of their natural positions for large parts of the season and they’ve got their heads down and got on with it for the good of Sheffield Wednesday. Marvin Johnson, Callum Paterson…I am indebted to them because they have stepped into the breach when we needed it the most. I am pleased to see them taking the plaudits now because they have done the hard yards.

ON ENTERING THE TOP SIX
I don’t look at the table for too long at this part of the season. Nothing is won or lost in February. We can talk about the table in May. We are in the top six and that is the aim and we are looking up, not down. We can never be satisfied, we must always have that desire and appetite to get better and want more. It is very congested around there and we have seen a lot of movement recently. There will be plenty of twists and turns to come and we can only focus on Sheffield Wednesday.

ON THE TREATMENT TABLE
We are getting players out of the treatment room and that’s a manager’s dream really. I want as many players as possible for the rest of the season. I want those headaches as a manager. Tuesday will come too soon for Lee Gregory but let’s see for Saturday. We saw some more of Lewis today which is another big positive as well as having big Dominic back on the bench. The injured players are getting better and hopefully the good news will keep on coming.
