Match preview - Doncaster v Owls

18 February 2022

MATCH DETAILS

Doncaster Rovers v Sheffield Wednesday
Saturday 19 February
3:00pm
Sky Bet League One
Eco-Power Stadium

Following the midweek postponement of our clash with Accrington Stanley at Hillsborough, Wednesday return to action this weekend in another South Yorkshire derby.

The Owls make the short trip to Doncaster on Saturday for the 3.00pm kick-off and will be backed by another sell-out allocation – 4,067 tickets have been sold for the away end at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Darren Moore knows what will be in store this weekend having managed Rovers between 2019 and 2021 before taking charge at Hillsborough. It will be the gaffer’s first return to Doncaster since making the S6 switch.

In terms of the bigger league picture, a win for Wednesday could mean a return to the top six, depending on results elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Rovers picked up a 1-0 win at Lincoln in midweek to keep alive their hopes of League One survival.

It has been a season of struggle for Saturday’s hosts, though two wins from their last four outings has brought renewed confidence to Doncaster, who are six points from safety in 23rd position.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing picked up a knock in our recent clash with Rotherham and will miss the trip to Doncaster.

Sam Hutchinson is rated at 50-50, striker Lee Gregory will not be risked this weekend, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Josh Windass remain unavailable.

Lewis Gibson, Dominic Iorfa and Chey Dunkley are all back on the training pitches with the squad and making good progress towards their respective returns.

Loanee Harlee Dean is weeks away from a return with the gaffer keen to ensure once fit, the experienced defender remains that way for the run-in.

Tyreece John-Jules is back with Arsenal receiving treatment and is a longer-term injury concern.

Doncaster: Midfielder Ethan Galbraith will not feature on Saturday as the loanee is back with parent club Manchester United suffering with a sciatica problem.

Defender Charlie Seaman (knee) is unlikely to figure against the Owls.
