Positive signs, Iorfa back and the business end

25 February 2022

The Owls go in search of a seventh win from nine when Charlton visit Hillsborough on Saturday. Here is a selection of talking points from Darren Moore’s pre-match press conference.

ON THE GAME
I know Johnnie very well, we played together at Derby. His teams like to get the ball down and play. This will be a good test and one we are looking forward to against a solid, workmanlike team. I think Johnnie and Jason Euell have done an excellent job, recent results haven’t gone their way, they’ve had a lot of injuries, but this is a team that have dangers all over the pitch.

ON INJURIES
It’s been another progressive week with the injured players. Sam has trained, Lewis has a solid week’s training, Chey is back on the training pitch and Dominic came through the Under-23s game with 60 minutes to his name. So the signs are good and hopefully the medical team will provide more positive news each week! Lee won’t be included for this one, we’ve decided to give him a little more time.

ON SAIDO BERAHINO
I’ve known Saido for some time, I know his capabilities and what he’s all about. The slate was wiped clear when he joined Wednesday, he has a new platform to build on. There’s more to come from him, he took his goal last week really well and made an impact from the bench. He’s been getting stronger in training and he’s benefiting from the scheduled extra work on the training ground and in the gym.

ON THE BUSINESS END
We’ve faced many hurdles this season and have a wonderful desire and belief in the group, irrespective of who plays in what position and when. Whoever has come has given their all for the team even if that has meant sacrificing themselves. Everyone matters, there are no individuals, we are a team. Our aim is that top six and our form and momentum is in the right direction. All we can do is stay consistent and keep playing to the best of our ability.

ON BAILEY PEACOCK-FARRELL
I’m pleased where Bailey has got to with Wednesday this season and when he returns to Burnley they will hopefully see a massive improvement. He continues to grow in stature and confidence and has a great size, stature and calmness about him.
