U23 report: Hull 1-0 Owls

9 February 2022

The Owls Under-23s suffered a 1-0 defeat against Hull City on Wednesday night.

A first half strike from Sincere Hall settled the Professional Development League clash at York City’s LNER Community Stadium.

It was a lively start to the Under-23 clash as both sides went in search of an early breakthrough goal.

Josh Render saved a speculative effort from midfielder Harry Wood before Charles Hagan rattled the woodwork from Kwame Boateng’s centre.

The decisive goal came midway through the first half as a Callum Jones cross to the back post picked out Hall, who clipped cleverly past Render to put the hosts a goal up.

The Tigers came within a whisker of adding to their lead after the break when Tom Nixon’s first time attempt on the edge of the box struck the crossbar.

Charles Hagan saw a late effort from Paulo Aguas’ centre blocked well by a resolute Hull defence at the last as the Owls were condemned to back-to-back defeats.

Neil Thompson’s Under-23 side are next in action on Monday 21 February at home to Crewe (Stocksbridge – k/o).

Owls: Render, Boateng (Dawodu 60), Thompson, Agbontohoma, Galvin, Trueman (Bonnington 85), Waldock, Glover, Aguas, Zottos (Onen 65), Hagan
