Owls sign Akin Famewo

6 July 2022

Wednesday have completed the signing of Akin Famewo from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old becomes Darren Moore’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

The versatile defender is a centre half by trade and can also slot across adeptly into the left back berth.

Famewo began his career with Luton Town, breaking into the Hatters’ first team at just 17-years-old before joining Grimsby Town on a short-term loan.

Norwich made a permanent move for the Londoner in January 2019, after which Famewo joined St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership for a temporary stint.

The breakthrough season came in 2020/21 when he joined Charlton Athletic on loan, making 22 appearances for the Addicks as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place in League One.

Famewo returned to The Valley for a second loan spell at the start of the 2021/22 campaign and went to become a mainstay in the Charlton backline, playing 40 games and scoring his first senior goal in a 3-2 win over Wimbledon in February.

Famewo joins the Owls ahead of Friday’s friendly with Harrogate Town and next week’s warm weather training camp in Portugal.

Welcome to S6, Akin!
