Reece James joins Owls on loan

7 July 2022

The Owls are pleased to announce the signing of Reece James on a season-long loan from Blackpool.

The 28-year-old is Wednesday’s seventh summer addition, joining a day after the permanent capture of fellow defender Akin Famewo.

Predominantly a left back, James is equally comfortably on the left of midfield and began his career as a youth player with Manchester United, making a first team appearance for the Red Devils in the League Cup in August 2014.

He enjoyed loan spells with Carlisle United, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town before making a permanent switch to Wigan Athletic in July 2015.

The full back played 57 games for the Latics and went on to join Sunderland, later signing for Doncaster.

James played 80 games in two seasons for Rovers, scoring nine goals, with the bulk of those appearances coming under Darren Moore.

He joined Blackpool at the start of last season and now bolsters Wednesday’s ranks ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

James will be available for Friday’s friendly match with Harrogate before travelling to next week’s warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

Welcome to Wednesday, Reece!
