A mixture of Under-18s, Under-23s and trialists were fielded for the fixture against the NCEL Division One outfit.
The game was staged at the Millennium Stadium, home to rugby league club Featherstone Rovers, with an attendance of 504.
Cory Woodward gave the hosts the lead after 20 minutes with a bullet header past Jack Hall before new Owls recruit Bobby Dunn briefly restore parity on the half hour mark with a strike from range.
Wakefield regained their one-goal lead on 34 minutes with a swift counter well finished by Jake Morrison.
