The Owls will sign Ben Heneghan on 1 July upon the expiry of his contract with AFC Wimbledon.
The towering central defender featured 71 times for the Dons after joining in 2020 and becomes Wednesday’s first addition of the summer transfer window.
Heneghan began his career as a youth player with Everton and Stoke before making his first senior start for Chester.
The 28-year-old impressed during a two-year stint with the Seals and earned a switch to Motherwell in 2016, making 50 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side.
Heneghan signed for Sheffield United in 2017 before successful back-to-back loan spells with Blackpool, for whom he played 80 games in two campaigns.
After leaving Bramall Lane, he switched to Wimbledon and proved a commanding physical presence in the Dons backline last season, also taking the captain’s armband on numerous occasions.
Heneghan boasted some of the most impressive stats in the division in terms of aerial duels and clearances and now adds to Darren Moore’s rearguard options ahead of 2022/23.
Welcome to Hillsborough, Ben!
