'Fit Owls’ is back, with bookings available now for the April programme!
Sheffield Wednesday’s Fit Owls project focuses on supporting an ageing population to develop active healthier lifestyles.
Participants benefit from the same quality of dietary, exercise and coaching information as that available to our players, which is tailored to meet varying health needs.
Obesity is rising faster in the UK than in any other part of Europe. Some 22% of people are now obese (a three-fold increase since the 1980s) and 65% are categorised as overweight or obese.
Furthermore, as there is strong evidence of the correlation between obesity, inactivity and major chronic illnesses (heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and many cancers), a new supportive community-based active ageing programme has never been more important.
Fit Owls incorporates a 12-week (three-stage) programme, within a 90-minute weekly delivery session.
Stage 1
Baseline health measures will be taken pre/during and post-project. Health assessment reports will be constructed and distributed with all feedback given dependent upon the findings.
Stage 2
Exercise advice and instruction tailored to a specific population. This includes developing a personalised home-based exercise plan.
Stage 3
Nutritional support to establish a healthy balanced approach to the dietary plan.
Bookings
Places are available now for April programmes, with all sessions running from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Mondays (men), Tuesdays (mixed) and Wednesdays (women).
