Former Owl Luke Varney is taking on a charitable challenge this weekend to raise funds for young people fighting cancer.
The ex-Wednesday forward, who enjoyed three loans spells in S6 between 2009 and 2010, will cycle 162km on Sunday 27 March along the Cheshire Cat Long route, which starts and finishes at Crewe Alexandra’s Mornflake Stadium.
The event is not for the faint-hearted, with several hill climbs on the route, taking anything from seven to 10 hours to complete!
All funds raised by Luke will benefit Cyclists Fighting Cancer, a charity that supports children and young people with cancer by donating new bikes, adapted trikes and other cycling equipment.
The aim is to aid the youngsters’ physical fitness and mental wellbeing, which is vital to their rehabilitation following treatment.
Luke takes on his challenge on Sunday 27 March, the day after our clash with Cheltenham, at which our former striker will be a special guest at Hillsborough.
