One full year for the gaffer

1 March 2022

Today marks exactly one calendar year since Darren Moore joined the Owls as first team manager.

With Wednesday set to face Burton tonight at Hillsborough, another victory in front of Wednesdayites under the S6 lights would be the perfect way to mark the anniversary.

Moore has steered the Owls up into the play-off spots after an incredible run of form.

With six wins from seven games, Wednesday have catapulted back into the play-off picture and are showing no signs of slowing down.

For the gaffer, it has been one huge collective effort to get to where we are now in the season.

“The big thing for me is building a culture at the football club and we spoke about this at Doncaster recently,” Moore said.

“It had been six years since we’ve come from losing a game to win it away from home. A club the size and ilk of Sheffield Wednesday, I was baffled by that.

“When I arrived at the club, I knew the importance of everyone coming together.

“It’s not just about me, Darren Moore as manager, I’m just a cog in it and everybody has to play their part, the fans, everybody, in turning this club around and getting the good fortunes back and getting people coming here and feeling proud of their team.

“So what we’ve tried to do this season is build a competitive team, build a connection with the fans, we still have work to do and I want unity, oneness and togetherness.

“The fans are seeing a group of players who the club means a lot to and I’m happy with that as the manager.

“We need to keep pushing, we have another stern test tonight against Burton and we focus all our attentions on that. The run we’ve been on comes with the team ethics being right and everybody working hard together.”
