Concentration on the cups

1 November 2022

Barry Bannan was pleased the Owls sealed victory on Saturday ahead of a two-week gap in the league as we turn our attention to back-to-back cup clashes.

The skipper scored with a stunning curling effort during our 4-2 victory over Burton at Hillsborough and was delighted to add to his tally.

Bannan said: “I missed an easy chance at Lincoln last week and then scored that one on Saturday so it’s strange!

“But we’ll take them however they come, the quality of the goals shows you the quality we have in the dressing room.

“We feel as though we are capable of scoring from anywhere really and everybody is chipping in which is a bonus.”

With Morecambe in the FA Cup first round on Friday evening and Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup next Wednesday, the Owls’ full attention is on progressing further in the respective competitions.

Bannan added: “The last two results had been disappointing, so we had to bounce back with a big performance and big result.

“It was all about the three points and it was important for us to get that with a two-week break from the league now.

“We have that positive of picking up three points and responding in the right way heading into two cup games now.

“We can now concentrate fully on the two cup games and know that when we come back we are in a position to attack.”
