Accrington v Wednesday
Saturday 12 November
3:00pm
League One
Wham Stadium
THE MATCH
After back-to-back cup games, Darren Moore’s Owls return to League One action with a trip to Accrington Stanley.
Away from the league programme, Wednesday can reflect on two encouraging cup performances. A comfortable 2-0 FA Cup first round victory over Morecambe was first up, where the Owls dominated in S6.
Mansfield will be next up in round two.
Then in midweek, the Owls took Premier League Southampton all the way to penalties in the Carabao Cup. Although knocked out on spot-kicks, the display on the South Coast offered plenty of positives as we now refocus on the league.
Ahead of our 18th game in the division, we sit in third spot, three points behind Ipswich in second. Accrington are 20th in League One and have lost five of their last six league outings.
John Coleman’s side did have an excellent win away at Crawley last weekend in the FA Cup, though, as Shaun Whalley scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win.
TEAM NEWS
Wednesday: The Owls will assess trio Liam Palmer (ear infection), George Byers (foot) and Mallik Wilks (ankle) ahead of the game.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru left the action early at St Mary’s with a minor Achilles injury but is in contention to feature on Saturday.
Jack Hunt could also return to the squad.
Accrington: Ex-Owl Kody Adedoyin could return to the squad following a spell out through injury.
The striker has been sidelined since early September but scored for the club’s Under-23s in midweek.
Jay Rich-Bagheulou, Matt Lowe, Mo Sangare and David Morgan are all long-term absentees.
Defender Ryan Astley is a doubt after picking up a knock.
