This is the bread and butter

12 November 2022

With three more points in the travel bag, Darren Moore said it was vital his side got back to winning ways on Saturday.

Wednesday were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in midweek at Premier League Southampton but got right back on the league saddle at Accrington.

Moore said: “The players got the plaudits for a really good performance at Southampton but this is the bread and butter today.

“We knew we would have to roll up our sleeves and graft for those points and that’s what we did.

“It’s credit to the players today because this was a different kind of game again but they’ve gone out there and got the job done.”

On a positive afternoon all round, Wednesday chipped away at the advantage of top two Plymouth and Ipswich – both of whom dropped points.

But Moore is focused only on matters in S6, with nothing won or lost at this stage of the season.

He added: “I’m told the others dropped points but that’s not where my focus is. My focus is solely on Sheffield Wednesday.

“The only table I’m interested in is the one in May. Until then, we keep plugging away.

“It’s three points here, it’s another clean sheet, we have a good week’s work ahead so let’s get going.”
