Ben Heneghan suffers injury blow

28 October 2022

Darren Moore confirmed that Ben Heneghan will require surgery for a knee injury during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit of Burton Albion to Hillsborough, the Owls boss described the news as a ‘bitter blow’ for his side.

Moore said: “It’s not good news on Ben.

“He’s suffered an injury in the game against Lincoln that will require surgery and could potentially rule him out for the rest of the season, which is a bitter blow for us.

“He’s done his Anterior Cruciate Ligament which is one of the main ligaments in the knee, he’ll have it fully repaired but obviously we know that’s a lengthy, lengthy process.

“Ben was a wonderful mainstay in the defence and played a huge part, he’ll be a big miss for us. So our thoughts are with Ben and getting him back as quickly as we possibly can.”

Heneghan's focus will now be solely on recovering from his injury and Moore confirmed he had spoken to the defender about the process, having suffered an identical setback during his playing career.

He added: “I have spoken with Ben, it’s an injury I had myself as a player.

“He’s such a wonderful character and strong individual and we’ll miss him, not only for his playing style, but he’s a leader as well.

“He’s in and around the building and will be supporting he players and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
