Moore: 'A polished performance'

18 October 2022

Despite exiting the Papa John’s Trophy, Darren Moore was pleased with what he tagged ‘a polished performance’ as the Owls beat Leicester Under-21s 2-0 on Tuesday.

The manager shuffled his pack and an entertaining tie spawned a debut goal for Will Trueman at one end and a Cameron Dawson penalty save at the other that captured Moore’s thinking.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I’m really pleased because it was a professional, polished performance.

“I’m delighted for Will Trueman, to score on his debut is a special feeling, he’s buzzing in there.

“There’s never been a better time for the academy players to know that there is a pathway to the first team.

“You look at the goalkeeper tonight, Cam has come through the ranks with Wednesday, he’s made an outstanding penalty save tonight that has helped us win the game.”

Moore fielded a largely senior team, giving valuable minutes to players in need of game time, and added:

“It’s vitally important to get some minutes into the legs of some of the lads who have not been playing.

“And the important thing for me is that we’ve finished the game tonight with a clean bill of health.

“We’re back into a two-game week and everyone has to be ready, chomping at the bit, because their time will come.”
