Moore rues missed chances

22 October 2022

The overriding thought was clear as Darren Moore addressed the media after his side were pegged back at Lincoln – two points dropped.

Wednesday dominated large parts of the game and were good value for the 1-0 lead at half time.

But they were caught cold immediately after the restart and paid for their profligacy in the final analysis.

Moore said: “It’s two points dropped today, there’s no doubt about that. We came here to win the game and we should have won the game.

“We’ve had the perfect start and then created so many chances but you have to take them and today we didn’t.

“Lincoln only had one chance really and they scored from it while we were wasteful and that’s the story of the game.

“I’ve seen the stats, we’ve had 16 shots and we have to be better in front of goal.”

Ben Heneghan turned in a trademark display of authority at the heart of the rearguard before going down with injury in the second half.

And Moore confessed to a nervous day or two ahead before the full prognosis is delivered on the big defender’s knee.

“He’s the worry for me,” said Moore. “He’s come off in pain, he was helped off the pitch and he’s in there now with ice on the injury.

“We need for it to settle down over the next day or two, we will get the report from the medical department but yes, right now it’s a worry.”
