Owls back Hate Crime Awareness Week

28 October 2022

Wednesday are proud to support National Hate Crime Awareness Week for 2022.

Our Community Programme are working hand in hand with South Yorkshire Police and Remedi, we can help make our club and town a more inclusive place for everyone.

Remedi are of the UK's leading facilitators of restorative justice services across the youth and adult criminal justice arena.

The Owls’ Community Programme serves as a third-party hate crime reporting centre. As well as reporting hate crime incidents directly to the police, victims/witnesses can come to a member of our community team to file a report. No one should be the victim of hate. We encourage anyone affected by hate abuse to come forward and report it.

Earlier this month, we joined forces with Show Racism the Red Card to deliver an anti-hate crime workshop to children from Wharncliffe Side, Greengate Lane and Windmill Hill primary schools in Sheffield.

The Community Programme also hosted an anti-hate crime quote competition with young people from Remedi. The winning quote was selected by Josh Windass (pictured).

Our community team have also been busy at work throughout the month by delivering inclusion workshops and hosting a Black History Month Football Celebration Tournament in the city.

The tournament was attended by over 80 young people from across South Yorkshire and fellow EFL sides Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, Middlesborough and Sheffield United.

Inclusion Officer Paul Hebda said: "The tournament was a massive success. To see all these clubs and young people come together to help break down barriers and celebrate black history has been amazing."
