MATCH DETAILS

Wednesday v Barnsley
Saturday 3 September
3:00pm
League One
Hillsborough

Wednesday head into Saturday’s South Yorkshire derby in excellent form.

After back-to-back league wins over Bolton and Forest Green Rovers, the Owls also progressed comfortably in the Carabao Cup against Rochdale.

Wednesday were beaten 3-1 in the Papa John’s Trophy trip to Bradford in midweek in a game that saw manager Darren Moore completely freshen up his side.

But four wins and one draw from the opening six League One fixtures has seen Wednesday move up to third in the division, albeit in the very early throes of the season.

Having dropped down from the Championship last season, Barnsley have had a mixed start to their campaign.

Michael Duff’s side are without a win in their last four outings, including a 3-0 home league defeat to Wycombe and a draw away at Ipswich, while also slipping to losses against Leeds in the Carabao Cup and Lincoln in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The Reds have seven points from their opening six games.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Dennis Adeniran will miss out this weekend through injury.

Ben Heneghan is back on the grass at Middlewood Road and making good progress but will not feature on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Wednesday are in good shape for the South Yorkshire derby.

Having made 10 changes for the clash against Bradford, the gaffer could revert to a similar squad that comprehensively dispatched Forest Green Rovers 5-0 last weekend.

Barnsley: The Reds could hand new recruit Adam Phillips his debut at Hillsborough.

The midfielder joined Barnsley on deadline day from Burnley, signing a three-year contract.

Josh Martin, on loan from Norwich, and Tom Edwards from Stoke could also make their first appearances for our visitors.

Defender Jordan Helliwell is sidelined with injury for a period of six to eight weeks.
