Match preview: Wednesday v Wycombe

23 September 2022

Wednesday v Wycombe Wanderers
Saturday 24 September
3:00pm
League One
Hillsborough

THE MATCH
Wednesday are seeking a return to winning ways after the midweek defeat to Burton in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The Owls were edged out 3-2 by the Brewers, albeit with 10 changes to the team that drew 2-2 with Ipswich in the league last Saturday.

Wycombe arrive at Hillsborough having made an indifferent start to the season. Chairboys fans had high hopes following last term’s march to the play-off final but the Buckinghamshire side currently sit 16th in the table.

TEAM NEWS
Wednesday: Darren Moore has no new injury concerns. Michael Smith and Josh Windass sat out the Burton game but will return to the squad on Saturday.

The Wycombe game will come too soon for Mark McGuiness while long-term absentees Dennis Adeniran (knee) and Akim Fameyo (knee) remain in the recovery room.

Wycombe: Gareth Ainsworth has injury concerns going into the clash with Wednesday.

Curtis Thompson, Brandon Hanlan and Josh Scowen each missed the Papa Johns Trophy defeat at Stevenage in midweek and are unlikely to feature at Hillsborough.

Ainsworth said: “Injuries are killing me at the moment, but I do think that we will be strong come in the second half of the season but we need to make sure that the first half of the season doesn't get away from us and we need to get some players back quick.”
