Michael Smith has been crowned as the swfc.co.uk September Player of the Month!
The striker has topped the fans’ poll with 38% of the vote via our official website.
It has been a successful month for the 30-year-old, who scored his first league goals of the campaign in back-to-back games against Morecambe and Ipswich.
Wednesday dominated the clash against Morecambe at the Globe Arena, where patience in front of goal paid off with three quick-fire second half goals inside 13 minutes.
Goals from Josh Windass and George Byers put the Owls in a commanding position before Smith swept home his first League One goal of the season seven minutes from time to make it three.
Next time out, Wednesday produced an impressive comeback against Ipswich, who arrived at Hillsborough top of the table and were 2-0 ahead with 15 minutes to play.
But Byers halved the deficit and Smith bagged his first S6 goal of the season to equalise in the final minute in front of the Kop, nodding home from a Reece James centre.
Wednesday finished the month with a 3-1 home win over last season's play-off finalists Wycombe.
Smith was again a key presence in our forward line and provided a wonderful assist for Barry Bannan to restore our one-goal first half lead.
The striker had fierce competition for the September award, with honourable mentions for Bannan (22%) and Byers (17%).
