Owls duo nominated for EFL awards

7 September 2022

The Owls have two nominees in the EFL’s August awards with Darren Moore and Liam Palmer in the running for the League One Manager and Player of the Month accolades respectively.

Wednesday boss Moore led us to four wins from five games in August as we also progressed to round three of the Carabao Cup to cap a strong opening month.

Victories over MK Dons, Charlton, Bolton and Forest Green sealed a solid start to the Owls’ league campaign.

Our gaffer is nominated for the monthly accolade alongside Portsmouth’s Danny Cowley, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna and Plymouth’s Steven Schumacher.

Meanwhile, Palmer was crowned the Player of the Month for August after an excellent start to the season for the defender.

The Wednesday youth product also scored twice, enjoying his wing back role in the side.

Palmer’s first strike came at the University of Bolton Stadium, the 30-year-old latching onto a Josh Windass ball to finish coolly past James Trafford in our 2-0 victory over the Trotters.

Then, in the following game, Palmer once again found space in the box to score our third goal in the 5-0 victory over Forest Green at Hillsborough.

The defender is nominated alongside Bristol Rovers striker Aaron Collins, Cambridge forward Sam Smith and Peterborough wing back Joe Ward.

An EFL panel will decide the winners of each category which will be announced this Friday, 9 September.
