Michael Smith was grateful to the supporters who voted him the swfc.co.uk Player of the Month for September following a string of impressive displays for the Owls.
The forward has returned from injury to score three goals in five games for Wednesday, two of which came in September against Morecambe and Ipswich, and was pleased to contribute to the Owls’ good form.
Smith said: “It’s a really nice feeling to overcome the injury and hit the ground running. The personal performances have been able to help the team win which is the most important thing.
“There’s no hiding with fans! They see everything! So, it’s a really nice feeling to get credit for the work you’ve put in.
“There would have been no surprises if this award had gone to four, five or six of the other lads in the dressing room. That speaks volumes of the squad the manager has put together.
“The fans are one of the main reasons I signed here, to play in front of big crowds, it’s unbelievable.
“To play in front of over 20,000 every other week and to see the following every away game, it really helps the lads.
“I know it’s a cliché but they are the 12th man and they do spur us on and help us over the line.”
