We just weren't where we needed to be

3 September 2022

Darren Moore reflected on the derby defeat against Barnsley and said he will analyse the game and move swiftly back on to the training ground.

Moore said Wednesday were under par and not themselves, leading to a disappointing display at Hillsborough.

Goals from Devante Cole and substitute James Norwood saw the Reds claim victory.

Moore told “We just weren’t where we needed to be today. It happens in football, you can’t put your finger on it, but the way you recover is to get back on the training ground and work.

“That’s what we will do, we will analyse the game, we will talk it through with the players and we will move on.

“I think today we had six or seven players not themselves and sometimes when you have one or two, you can carry that. But not six or seven.

“But I don’t want to take anything away from Barnsley and Michael Duff, they’ve come here, played well and taken the three points.

“They made it difficult with the five centre backs and we couldn’t find a way through.

“We had one or two chances at 1-0 but didn’t take them. We will draw a line underneath it, we have a week of work on the training ground before we make the long journey to Plymouth where we must react to what was a bad day at the office this afternoon.”
