Key errors at key moments

15 April 2023

Darren Moore said key errors at key moments cost the Owls in our 3-2 defeat to Burton at the Pirelli Stadium.

Goals from Callum Paterson and Michael Smith were not enough to seal a positive result against the Brewers, and Moore said Wednesday’s performance was missing in Staffordshire.

The gaffer said: “That wasn’t the performance or result we wanted this afternoon.

“I just said to them that you can’t give any team three goals and expect to get much from the game.

“When you look at the first two goals, they’ve got two first-time contacts, that’s not been us all season.

“We switched off in key moments in the game, gave them three goals and it was always an uphill battle to get back in the match.

“We huffed and puffed, but it tells the story of the game when we had 16 attempts on goal with only seven on target, scoring two. They had seven shots, three on target, three goals.

“Right from the start it wasn’t good enough today and we have to accept it was a poor performance.

“We got ourselves back into the game but key errors at key moments cost us the result today.

“When you look back at the result, we have no complaints because the performance wasn’t there, and if the performance isn’t there you can’t win a game.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down and when we go to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, we have to give a better showing than we did this afternoon.”
