Under-21s earn point at Cardiff

4 April 2023

The Owls Under-21s posted a point at Cardiff last Tuesday afternoon to end a three-game losing streak in the Professional Development League.

The game finished 1-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium with Jay Glover on target for the visitors.

In terms of team news for Wednesday, there were several changes from our 21s’ last league outing in the 1-0 home defeat to Barnsley at Stocksbridge.

Luke Jackson replaced Jack Hall between the sticks, while there was also a place in the starting XI for Rio Shipston, who has been a part of the seniors’ matchday squad on a regular basis this season.

The Owls fell a goal behind after just five minutes with Isaak Davies firing home from inside the box after Wednesday failed to clear their lines.

But the response was strong and swift. A little over five minutes later, Glover fired Neil Thompson’s side level.

Sam Durrant’s corner was flicked on by Josh Ashman in the box and following a touch from Luke Cook, Glover unleashed a venomous first time strike into the bottom corner.

There was little to separate the sides after the interval, with Cardiff edging the second period in terms of chances but without really threatening Jackson’s goal.

Our 21s return to action on Tuesday 18 April against QPR at Stocksbridge.

Owls: Jackson, Onukwuli, Siqueira, Ashman, Alimi-Adetoro, Aguas (Flannery 70), Shipston (Thornton 60), Glover, Buchan, Durrant, Cook (Moses 80)
