Windfall for local charities!

7 August 2023

Ahead of the fans’ forum held at Hillsborough in June, our chairman Dejphon Chansiri stated that all funds raised after costs on the evening would be donated to charity.

Mr Chansiri further pledged that the club would double the final figure, which in total equated to £5,000.

The chairman announced at the forum that no costs would be deducted and we are now pleased to confirm that two local charities dedicated to reducing homelessness in the community have each received donations of £2,500.

The Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme have long-standing relationships with Roundabout and The Archer Project.

Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s local youth housing charity providing shelter, support and life skills to young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The charity recently won a contract to provide eight additional bed spaces for young homeless people in Sheffield. The property is in need of refurbishment, which includes new furniture and decoration to provide a bright, safe space.

The donation of £2,500 will ensure that Roundabout are able to proceed with the necessary renovations and offer a vital pathway to vulnerable young people.

The Archer Project has a proven history of transforming the lives of the vulnerable and homeless in Sheffield. In the last year alone, the charity supported 909 individuals in their journey out of homelessness.

The Archer Project currently serve an average of 130 meals a day to homeless people in the city.

Food inflation amid the cost of living crisis continues to have a major impact and the £2,500 donation will help ensure the charity will not have to reduce the quality of meals for those who need them the most.

The club will present the funds to both Roundabout and The Archer Project before our next Championship home game, against Preston on Saturday 19 August.

Any supporter who attended the forum and would like to join the group for a photo opportunityon Saturday week is welcome to do so – please email communitycharities@swfc.co.uk for details.

Both the club and our Community Programme will continue to work hand in hand with a range of charities, offering support and promoting awareness through these increasingly challenging times.
