Key moments prove costly

13 December 2023

A disappointed Danny Röhl was left to rue key moments at Carrow Road that led to the Owls’ first defeat in four games.

Wednesday slipped to a 3-1 reverse against Norwich and the Owls boss felt his side fell short in both boxes throughout the contest.

Borja Sainz gave the hosts an early lead but the Owls’ response was strong and Bailey Cadamarteri’s second senior goal for the club was a deserved equaliser.

But just moments into the second half, the Canaries struck again to regain their advantage and added a third with 18 minutes left on the clock.

Despite moments of promise, Wednesday were unable to capitalise and take anything from the game and the manager said:

“I think in the end it was deserved for our opponent because they were better in the key moments.

“We tried everything and had good solutions with the ball against a good pressing team.

“It was not a bad game from us but in the end it was not enough. Now it is about us going forward and improving and we will be ready on Saturday.

“For sure we could do better with the goals we conceded. For 2-1 we were not organised in our wide position, for the third goal we didn’t have pressure on the ball and for me it didn’t feel a dangerous situation but yes, these are the key moments in the game.

“It is about defending well and being ready in the offence for our scoring.

“We came back at 1-1 and it was good for Bailey to score again, it’s fantastic but now we have to recover and prepare for the next game and then we go on Saturday.

“We had some moments in the first half, we changed things at the half break but then conceded just moments into the second half and it became a different game.

“In the last 20 minutes we tried everything to come back into the game and had some good moments but in the box we were not strong enough.

“We were not strong enough in both boxes. We had more ball possession than the opponent, we had chances but in the end it is about scoring and we were not able for this tonight.

“It is a pity but we must go forward.”

Josh Windass and Michael Smith were absent from the squad for the clash with Norwich and Röhl explained:

“It is a pity we have some injuries but this is normal at this time of the year, there are a lot of games and it will be an important part of this period, the game management.

“We have to look to get the players back as soon as possible, let’s have a look what we can do for Saturday.”
