Röhl hails Preston points

29 December 2023

After his players dug deep to bring three vital points back to Sheffield from Preston, Danny Röhl spread his praise around the S6 camp.

Wednesday, reduced to 10 men for the closing stages after George Byers saw red, showed powers of resilience to hang on to what proved Marvin Johnson’s winning goal.

Röhl told swfc.co.uk: “It was unbelievable really, the way we fought, the way we are giving everything, the way we are fighting for every ball.

“Around the team, from the back to the front, my players gave everything they had. In the meeting today I spoke of the importance of the first ball, then the second ball, doubling up and fighting for every ball.

“In front of those fans, more than 5,000 fans, it was incredible. I have to say a massive thank you to them for coming out to support the team away from home on a Friday night between Christmas and New Year. You give us so much energy.”

On Byers’ red card, Röhl said: “I did not see the incident but we will deal with this in the dressing room, whatever happened.

“It is not helpful of course because the squad is getting smaller with injuries and suspensions but there was a lot of emotion and passion out there…my players are desperate to play and desperate to win.

“Football is full of emotion and things will happen. I will protect my players and we will deal with this situation.”
