Match preview: Ipswich v Wednesday

10 February 2023

Ipswich v Wednesday
Saturday 11 February
3:00pm
League One
Portman Road

THE MATCH

It’s third v first at Portman Road on Saturday as the Owls go head-to-head with promotion rivals Ipswich.

Wednesday moved to the top of the table on goal difference after defeating Plymouth 1-0 last weekend, while the Tractor Boys were held to a 1-1 draw at Cambridge.

As things stand in League One, the Owls are six points ahead of Ipswich with a game in hand.

It promises to be another stern test for Darren Moore’s side in their quest for promotion.

Ipswich have slipped to just one home defeat all season – a 1-0 loss to Lincoln back in October. They have won eight and drawn five at Portman Road this campaign.

The Owls, meanwhile, head to Suffolk on the back of six successive league victories.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Callum Paterson (muscle injury) is set for an extended period on the sidelines.

In terms of a timescale, the gaffer has said any return for Paterson will likely be near the end of the season.

In more positive news, Reece James (ankle) is rated 50-50 for Saturday’s clash with Ipswich.

Ipswich: The Tractor Boys have been dealt a blow with midfielder Lee Evans (knee) ruled out.

Ex-Owls midfielder Massimo Luongo has picked up a knock and is a doubt for the game, while a late decision will be made on Wes Burns.

MINUTE’S SILENCE

Players will wear black armbands and a minute's silence will take place ahead of the fixture for those who have lost their lives in the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

TICKET NEWS

SOLD OUT. Over 29,000 will be inside Portman Road on Saturday for this top of the table clash.
