One step at a time

21 February 2023

Lee Gregory was delighted to be back on the scoresheet on Saturday as the Owls returned to the top of the table.

It was a key goal at a crucial point in the game against MK Dons to put Wednesday ahead for the first time after twice falling behind.

The Owls continue to progress nicely and are well poised in the battle for promotion but Gregory insists it’s one game and one step at a time, with plenty of football ahead.

“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves,” he said. “We’ll take it one step at a time and that’s the way it will be.

“Once we get to the end of the season, then we can look back at all the work and say this is why we did it.

“Right now we’re just focused on the next game and I want to help drive the team forward.”

Reflecting on a frustrating past few months on a personal note, Gregory continued:

“I said before that I probably had a bad three months or so with little injuries and illness and things like that but I feel like I am back now.

“Hopefully I can get a few more starts but even if I’m not starting, as long as I’m coming on and impacting games like I did on Saturday then I’m happy.

“We have said this for months and months but we are grinding out results even when we are not at our best. We’ve drawn games that we might have lost in the past and it shows the character and desire we have in the dressing room.”
