A stunning second half strike from Coventry’s Danny Cashman condemned a young Wednesday Under-21s side to defeat on Monday afternoon.
The winger slalomed into the danger zone and finished neatly to earn his side the points at a snowy Look Local Stadium.
The Sky Blues had the better of the chances, with Josh Reid firing narrowly past Jack Hall’s upright the highlight of the first half.
Reid then turned provider after the break, teeing up Harrison Nee, whose header was well saved by Hall.
The decisive goal came on 55 minutes. Cashman motored upfield and gave Hall no chance with an arrowed effort from the edge of the box that whistled into the bottom corner.
Wednesday, with eight players in the squad who featured in the Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup victory over Leicester on Friday, had little joy in the final third as they sought an equaliser against a rigid Coventry backline that held out for victory.
