Owls support Her Game Too

17 March 2023

The Owls are delighted to welcome Her Game Too to Hillsborough this evening!

Her Game Too aims to combat sexism and improve equality for women in sport via campaigns, events and direct links to clubs.

Ahead of tonight’s game, the Owls will don Her Game Too shirts to highlight the importance of inclusivity in sport.

Speaking in his programme notes for the League One clash with Bolton, Wednesday boss Darren Moore said: “I want to welcome Her Game Too to Hillsborough this evening. The professional game is changing because there is a need for an influx of women in the game. The Women’s Super League and England Ladies winning the European Championships has highlighted that.

“The success of the ladies managing in the WSL is phenomenal and there’s a consistency about them. I’ve had the beauty of meeting quite a few of them at the LMA end of season awards and they have excellent knowledge and determination.

“It’s very welcome that we have an influx of women in the professional game and right across the football fraternity, it’s essential for the game and I fully endorse it. “

The Owls’ Her Game Too ambassador Dawn Thompson added: “I’m happy to have a dedicated fixture as we can bring awareness to the campaign.

“It’s very positive to see the club sharing our message of inclusivity within football. Hopefully, people in the wider community will see the message and want to come along to Hillsborough.

“I’m proud of Her Game Too because this initiative helps to ensure that all women and girls feel comfortable when attending a match at Sheffield Wednesday.”
