A big job but we believe

18 May 2023

Barry Bannan says the main thing tonight ahead of the play-off semi-final second leg is having the belief to do something special at Hillsborough.

The odds are stacked against the Owls as Peterborough head to S6 with a four-goal lead but the captain has put any such talk to one side.

Plenty will need to go right for Wednesday on the night to stand any chance of a remarkable comeback and Bannan is not ready to give up on anything yet.

“We’ve given ourselves a big job to do, it’s a challenge but it’s one we can do. We have broken records so many times this season and this is another one we are going to try and break,” he wrote in his matchday programme column.

He continued: “The table doesn’t lie, we have 96 points and only lost once at home all season so our home record has been terrific. First and foremost, we have to go and win the game, and then, we have to try and win it handsomely.

“We’ve looked back at the good things we’ve done at Hillsborough this season, we’ve scored a lot of goals. Now it’s all about mentality, quality will come into it as well, but the main thing is the belief otherwise there is no point turning up.

“It was loud at their place but it won’t be a patch on what it can be like here so it is vital we do our job and bring the fans into it.”
