We move on to Friday

9 May 2023

With the regular season having reached its conclusion over the weekend, all focus now turns to the play-offs.

Wednesday and Peterborough will go head-to-head in the League One play-off semi-finals to battle for a place at Wembley.

Despite missing out on automatic promotion, the Owls can reflect on an incredible campaign filled with huge highs and broken records but the biggest challenge lies ahead.

Liam Palmer believes Wednesday head into the semi-finals in the right manner with four wins on the bounce – including Sunday’s triumph over Derby at a sold-out Hillsborough.

It was a terrific atmosphere as the Owls inflicted a damaging defeat on the Rams and Palmer says the team will need all the support in the crucial games ahead.

“We knew Derby had a lot riding on it but so did we because we wanted to go into the play-offs having won the last four games which we managed to do.

“We wanted to finish the normal season strong at home, we have a good home record and this was another one we can add to the clean sheet total as well.

“I think we’re up to 24 clean sheets now and that’s what we set out to do on Sunday.”

The first leg will take place in front of the Sky Sports cameras at the Weston Homes Stadium on Friday night (8:00pm).

Palmer continued: “So now we move on to Friday, we will regroup and go again.

“We wanted the 96 points and to give the fans something to shout about.

“We go into the play-offs confident and in good form, we’ll go back to the drawing board, look how we set up against Peterborough and start the first leg strong.

“It was great to walk out at Hillsborough to a sea of blue and white everywhere and we want to thank the fans for their support all season and we’ll need them for hopefully another three games.

“I’m sure they will sing us home and hopefully we can get the job done.”
