Bernard back while Momo makes strides

24 November 2023

Di’Shon Bernard has returned to Middlewood Road after a successful stint with Jamaica over the international break.

The Reggae Boyz spectacularly defeated Canada over two legs to quality for Copa America 2024 and seal a place at the Nations League finals next March.

Having played a full game in Kingston, Jamaica, Bernard then travelled to Toronto for the second leg earlier this week.

Jamaica recovered from a 2-1 deficit in the first leg, to go through on away goals in Toronto with an aggregate score of 3-3.

Danny Röhl was asked for an update on the former Manchester United defender ahead of our trip to Birmingham on Saturday.

“Di’Shon arrived back on Thursday,” Röhl said. “The day was more about the recovery for him and on Friday he will be back in the training.

“We will see what I decide for the Saturday match.

“It is good because his self confidence will be up. If the guys are successful with their international team, I know this from the past, then it is always good when they come back with a good feeling.”

Bernard has made 12 appearances for the Owls so far this season.

In other positive news, Momo Diaby has been back amongst things in training at Middlewood.

The loanee is making big strides towards a return to action.

“It’s good to see Momo back on the pitch, he is part of the team,” Danny continued.

“He cannot do everything at the moment but it is the first step.

“Like other players who have been injured, they have to come back with some small exercises, he has an individual programme.

“He is in a process to come back as close as possible to the team, he will also need some minutes in the Under-21s to get ready and then, yes, in the next two or three weeks he will be closer and closer.

“But this first big step is good also for the mind after an injury when you have trained a lot alone, then it is good you can be part of the team now.”
