The best manager I have had

28 November 2023

As the Owls prepare to host Leicester on Wednesday night at Hillsborough, captain Barry Bannan has penned his usual column for the club’s matchday programme.

With the league leaders in town, it promises to be another tough challenge for the Owls.

But one man who will never lie down and give up is the skipper.

Inside the Foxes edition of ‘Wednesday’, Bannan discusses plenty of topics – one of which is life under the management of boss Danny Röhl.

In a remarkable insight into the impact of the new manager, Bannan pays the ultimate compliment to the German.

Despite registering just the one win, the upturn in performances and stats across the board provide hope for the busy Christmas period and second half of the season.

Explaining how the lads are adapting to the new ways at Middlewood Road, Bannan writes:

“This club will never wave any flags, we know that more than most after what we achieved last season. If we’re being written off now then that’s not right.

“We have got a top manager involved now, and it’s difficult to describe it but I would say he is probably the best manager I have had in my whole football career. We need to trust in him to get us out of this because I think he is destined for the top.

“I have sometimes found myself in team meetings thinking; ‘wow’, kind of thing. Or ‘how has he seen that?’ He has shown me things on the tactics board, in meetings and in games that I have never seen any manager do.

“We have the right man in charge and it’s just about sticking with him and I have got no doubt that this club will see better days.”
