U18s: Owls and Burnley share the spoils

13 November 2023

The Owls Under-18s were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley on Saturday morning at Middlewood Road.

Carlos Rodrigues put Wednesday ahead after 41 minutes with a close range finish.

The Owls pounced on a loose pass from Clarets goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw, who then made the save from Devlan Moses but Rodrigues was there at the back post to slot home the rebound.

Just over five minutes into the second half Burnley were level.

Zach Johnson’s free kick was turned onto the post by Tyrell Dawes and Benji Wetshi was on hand to scramble the ball over the line.

It was a deserved share of the spoils for both sides who are going strong in the Professional Development League.

The Owls remain third in the table, one place and two points above the Clarets.

Andy Holdsworth’s side travel to Barnsley on Friday evening (7:00pm). The Reds sit second in the division after back-to-back wins over Crewe and Birmingham.

SWFC: Phillips, Johnson, Dawes, Emery, Swales, Rodrigues, Kakay, Thornton, Fernandes, Moses, Weston (shaw 75)
