Match pack: West Brom v Owls

2 October 2023

West Brom v Wednesday
Tuesday 3 October
8:00pm
Championship
The Hawthorns

THE MATCH

The Owls are back on the road on Tuesday night in the Championship facing a West Brom side unbeaten in four.

After three successive draws, the Baggies produced a stunning performance away at high-flyers Preston on Saturday and left Deepdale with three points after their 4-0 win.

Carlos Corberan’s side are eighth in the division with just two defeats so far, one at home to Huddersfield (1-2) last month and the other on the opening day away at Blackburn (2-1).

Wednesday will head to the Hawthorns as the underdogs after a poor start to the 2023/24 season which continued Friday night against Sunderland.

The Owls went down 3-0 in S6 in front of the Sky Sports cameras and remain winless after nine games.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Barry Bannan and Josh Windass will be assessed for the trip to the Midlands.

The Owls duo were injury absentees in the defeat to Sunderland and post-match, Xisco said:

“They had injuries in the last part of the week and couldn’t play in the game. We will see if they can recover.

“You know Bannan and you know Windass, they both always try to give their 100% to push themselves to play. We will see but it’s a short time.”

The likes of Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Tyreeq Bakinson Will Vaulks and Michael Smith will be pushing for a return to the starting line-up.

West Brom: After the outstanding win over Preston, Corberan could stick with the same side on Tuesday night.

Semi Ajayi (ankle) could come back into contention after missing the trip to Deepdale.

LOVE FOOTBALL, PROTECT THE GAME

The EFL, Premier League, FA, FSA, PGMOL, LMA and PFA have come together this season to implement a series of measures to address behaviour across the game.

This includes new policies, procedures, and regulations to eradicate unacceptable conduct on the pitch, on the sidelines and in the stands.

The new measures build on the work launched last season to combat dangerous and illegal fan behaviour, supported by the ‘Love Football. Protect the Game’ football-wide campaign.
