Time to build

12 September 2023

The recent international break has been an important period for Xisco and his staff to continue the hard work with the squad.

Week by week, a new-look Owls side back in the second tier has shown improvements but a first point on the board was essential ahead of the first break.

For Xisco, that maiden point and clean sheet at Leeds almost two weeks ago was a just reward for the hard work behind the scenes.

“One of the things that is really important is that we continue in this way,” the manager said. “I am sure that with these performances the results are coming.

“For sure if we play like that more, the results will arrive. We have to understand the level of the players we have in front of us and last season Leeds were Premier League.

“For me, this two weeks is perfect because it has been a moment for us to continue working together.”

Back-to-back home games is on the horizon for the Owls, with Ipswich first up this weekend followed by Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Xisco continued: “We need to try to give a very good performance at home in front of our fans and for the team to give their best.

“We are thinking always about the future; short, medium and long-term.

“Right now, we are with things in the short-term, the performances now, and at Leeds we were very good and were happy with the levels of all of our players.

“I know how hard my players are working every day on the training ground to be with full power, full energy and working to get the points in the Championship.

“You watch our games in pre-season and watch them now, you can see the improvement and sure, every day we are better and better.”
