U21 goals, first team training and looking to the future

26 September 2023

Bailey Cadamarteri has enjoyed a successful start to the campaign for the Owls Under-21s.

The striker has scored seven goals in six appearances for Neil Thompson’s side.

With just one defeat in six outings, our Under-21s have been strong so far in 2023/24, underlined by an impressive 4-0 win away at Burnley most recently last week.

It was another game where young Cadamarteri struck a brace – his third of the season.

The league fixtures against Burnley (0-4), Cardiff (3-3) and Millwall (2-2) saw the forward bag a double.

He also scored from the penalty spot in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Watford at Hillsborough back in August.

Xisco said: “Always we are thinking about him. I follow the games for the academy and always I am thinking about him.

“As a manager you need to try to think about the positive things and he is one of the positive things we have in our club.

“We will see in the future what we are doing and if we can use him or not.

“Him scoring in the second team, we need to look to see if he can be with us in the first team, if it is the moment to put him in or not.”

In between plundering the goals at 21s level, Cadamarteri has trained on occasions with the first team and Xisco continued:

“Sometimes, yes he trains with us and sometimes he trains with the second team.

“Sometimes players must progress and maybe wait for a good moment to introduce him.

“We are thinking for now and for the future.

“One of the things you cannot teach is having goals in your blood. He thinks about goals and has the capacity to make individual actions to score.

“He is a very good striker.”
