Big boost for Owls as duo return

4 April 2024

Josh Windass and Callum Paterson will provide the Owls with a selection boost ahead of the trip to QPR this weekend.

The duo have spent a long stint on the sidelines but manager Danny Röhl says both are available and in his thoughts for the trip to the capital.

In fact, the overall picture on the injury front is positive, with only Di’Shon Bernard a doubt.

“Everyone else is available and back,” the manager said.

“You have to now select the right players for the starting XI, and after the last games my thoughts are in a lot of directions. Let’s have a look how we select.

“You have some players who are good at the moment, some who have had good games and then dropped back a little bit, and I think that’s been the challenge since I arrived.

“We’re not always with the same performance.

“For instance if you compare some players from Friday to Monday, there’s a big difference. But this is football, and hopefully I find the right 11.

“I want to see a team that is active, not passive, not waiting, we have to be active and since I arrived that has been one of our strengths.”

Paterson hasn’t featured since Boxing Day and has since undergone knee surgery from which he is now fully recovered.

Should the Scot feature this weekend, it will be his 150th appearance for the Owls.

“He trained on Tuesday well, yesterday was a light session because it was two days after the game and we have to pay attention to that but today, he was involved in everything,” Röhl said of Paterson.

“He looks good, of course he has been a long time out but he is a different profile for us, an experienced one.

“From the bench both (Windass and Paterson) are possible, maybe one of them can even start and this is the final decision I must look for.

“The next game is the most important one but after injuries and players coming back, then to play Saturday and Tuesday, we have to look at that and realise it is not possible that they can start both games.

“These are all the questions I have in my mind but we will find the right players for this job.”
