The lads were itching to get back out there

6 April 2024

Liam Palmer has spoken of the need for more performances like today as Wednesday focus in on the five remaining games this season.

The Owls remain well in the fight for survival after a hugely important 2-0 win over QPR on the road.

It was a well-deserved travelling triumph for Danny Röhl’s side as goals from substitutes Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba sealed a vital three points to keep Wednesday in touch of Championship safety.

Assessing the performance, Palmer told swfc.co.uk: “First off, the starting 11 and then the subs have come on and affected the game – it was a fantastic performance.

“We spoke during the week about it being a team effort and everyone together and that showed today.

“Bringing on fresh legs after a tough battle and we got the win we needed - a really good result and performance.

“The main thing was the reaction, we couldn’t wait for the game to start.

“From the minute we arrived at the stadium, to beginning the warm-ups, everybody was really dialled in for the game.

“We knew we couldn’t play worse than at Middlesbrough, we had a lot of words in the week and the lads were itching to get back out there and to get three points.

“We haven’t got time to waste, we need more performances like that now.

“Nothing magic, just every player working hard and covering for each other, bodies on the line and taking chances when they come.

“To get two goals away from home, we are delighted with that.

“There are no second chances at this stage of the season, we will recover and go again on Tuesday.”
